IRS Hires Barr to Lead
Electronic Tax Administration

WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service announced today the selection of Robert E. (Bob) Barr, currently the Vice President of Government Programs for Intuit Inc., as Assistant Commissioner (Electronic Tax Administration).

In this position, Barr will serve as the principal operations advisor to the agency on all electronic tax administration matters. He will also direct all operating electronic filing, payment, communications, compliance support and systems support programs.

Barr will be responsible for planning, developing and managing comprehensive strategies and programs that will dramatically increase the full range of electronic interactions with the Service.

"We are very fortunate to have someone of Bob's caliber to help lead the effort of vastly expanding our capability to electronically serve the American taxpayer," said Michael P. Dolan, IRS's acting commissioner. "With his electronic filing experience in both the private sector and state government, Bob is a very important addition to our leadership team. His arrival also complements nicely the addition of several excellent new executives to the CIO's organization and will strengthen significantly our ability to achieve our ambitious electronic tax administration goals."

Before moving into government programs at Intuit, Barr held the position of Vice President for Electronic Services. Prior to joining Intuit, Barr was manager of information services with the South Carolina Tax Commission. His entire career has been involved in information systems, including programming, systems analysis, marketing and general management. Barr received his B.S. degree from the University of South Carolina and his MBA in finance from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
