IRS Helps 3,600 Taxpayers
at Saturday Service

WASHINGTON - Ice and snow in the Northeast and wet weather in the Northwest did not keep taxpayers from turning out in impressive numbers for the January 16 kick-off of the Internal Revenue Service’s Saturday walk-in hours. More than 3,600 taxpayers were assisted nationwide.

IRS Commissioner Charles O. Rossotti said the expanded Saturday service is one of a series of steps designed to make it as easy as possible for taxpayers to get the help they need. “Saturday access to IRS representatives complements our user-friendly Web site and around-the-clock toll-free helpline,” he said. “We will provide walk-in service every Saturday throughout the filing season as an added convenience for our customers.”

Walk-in service will be offered for 12 additional Saturdays through April 10. The next five Saturdays will focus on assisting low-income taxpayers who may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). However, other taxpayers are welcome to drop by with tax law questions or to pick up tax forms and IRS publications.

Forms, publications and a host of helpful information may also be downloaded from the IRS Web site (www.irs.ustreas.gov). Additional help is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling the IRS toll-free helpline at 1-800-829-1040.
