IRS Recruits for Two Key Executive Positions
WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service today announced that it is recruiting for the newly-created, top executive positions of Division Commissioner, Wage and Investment Operating Division, and Division Commissioner, Small Business and Self-Employed Operating Division. These are four-year appointments with special pay rates, as outlined in the Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998.
The establishment of these positions is part of our effort to place the right
people in the right jobs to help move us toward the creation of a new, taxpayer-focused
IRS, said Charles O. Rossotti, Commissioner of Internal Revenue.
As part of the IRSs modernization effort, it is restructuring into four operating
divisions, plus a national headquarters. Each division will serve taxpayer groups with
similar needs. The two other operating divisions are the Tax Exempt and Government
Entities Operating Division and the Large and Mid-Size Corporation Operating Division.
Just as many financial institutions have different divisions that serve retail
customers, small to medium businesses, and large multinational businesses, the taxpayer
base falls naturally into similar groups, said Rossotti.
The Division Commissioner, Wage and Investment Operating Division, will lead almost
24,000 employees in educating and assisting approximately 116 million taxpayers with wage
and investment income. These taxpayers file 90 million returns, generally interact with
the IRS on a limited basis, and typically receive refunds.
The Division Commissioner, Small Business and Self-Employed Operating Division, will
lead almost 39,000 employees focused on providing world-class service to the small
business and self-employed taxpayer. This division will develop targeted educational and
compliance strategies that best address the needs of these taxpayers and work through
partnerships most appropriate for small business and self-employed taxpayers.
The IRS is using the services of well-known recruitment firm Korn/Ferry to search for
candidates for these key executive positions. Interested parties may send their resumes to
