National Taxpayer Advocate Selects
Kenneth J. Drexler as Senior Advisor

WASHINGTON - National Taxpayer Advocate Nina E. Olson has selected Kenneth J. Drexler to serve as her Senior Advisor in connection with the National Taxpayer Advocate´s Annual Report to Congress. Drexler will assist in developing legislative recommendations for the annual report and will serve as the National Taxpayer Advocate´s liaison with members of Congress, Congressional committees and other federal agencies concerning proposals to improve the administration of the tax system.

He is the first individual to serve the National Taxpayer Advocate in this position. “Ken´s experience both inside and outside the government brings a valuable perspective for our important work at the Taxpayer Advocate Service,” said Nina Olson. “He will play a key role improving our ability to meet the challenging mission Congress has set for the Taxpayer Advocate Service.”

The Taxpayer Advocate Service, an independent organization within the Internal Revenue Service, was established for the purpose of assisting taxpayers in resolving problems with the IRS. The National Taxpayer Advocate is responsible for reports to Congress that identify areas in which taxpayers have problems in dealing with the IRS and recommend legislative changes to mitigate such problems. Prior to joining the National Taxpayer Advocate´s Office, Drexler served as a tax associate at the law firm of Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C., where he concentrated on corporate and international tax issues and represented clients before the IRS and the courts. He served as a law clerk to U.S. Tax Court Judge Maurice B. Foley and worked in the IRS Office of Chief Counsel as an attorney-advisor on corporate tax issues. Drexler´s legislative experience includes work as a legislative aide to Senator John Glenn and as the press secretary for the Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

Drexler holds a bachelor´s degree in government and economics from Harvard College and juris doctor and master of laws degrees from Georgetown University Law Center. He has bar memberships with the District of Columbia, U. S. Supreme Court, U. S. Court of Federal Claims and U.S. Tax Court.
