Michael R. Chesman Named to Small Business Burden Reduction Post
WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service announced today the selection of Michael R. Chesman as the new director of the Office of Taxpayer Burden Reduction in the Small Business/Self-Employed Division.
Michael Chesman joins us with excellent qualifications and a genuine desire to reduce tax burden by decreasing the time and cost for the small business community in fulfilling their tax obligations. I am pleased to welcome him to the IRS leadership team, said Joseph Kehoe, Commissioner, Small Business/Self-Employed Division.
Chesman brings more than 30 years of senior executive and tax counsel experience to the IRS. As director of the newly established Office of Taxpayer Burden Reduction, Chesman will work with members of the small business community and with internal and external stakeholders, to identify, prioritize and implement policy and regulatory changes needed to reduce taxpayer burden.
A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law in 1969, Chesman began his career as an IRS attorney. He joined Prudential Insurance Co. of America in 1975, where he held numerous senior management positions in tax compliance, planning and legislative affairs before retiring in 2001.
