IRS Hires Outside Firm to Validate
Modernization Concept

WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service today announced that Booz-Allen & Hamilton, an international management and technology consulting firm, will conduct a validation study and risk assessment of the recently announced plan to modernize the IRS.

Commissioner Charles 0. Rossotti first announced the concept of a modernized IRS on January 28, before the Senate Finance Committee. Under the new concept, the IRS will focus on understanding and solving taxpayers' problems and helping them meet their obligations under the tax law.

"I am pleased that a world-renowned firm like Booz-Allen & Hamilton is undertaking the effort to study and validate the IRS Modernization Concept," said Commissioner Rossotti. "Their expertise in both the government and financial service sectors will ensure that we are headed in the right direction to turn the IRS into the customer-focused organization taxpayers deserve."

Today the IRS also announced it has hired James van B. Dresser, a 27-year veteran of The Boston Consulting Group, to guide this effort. "Mr. Dresser's management skills and experience will strengthen the leadership team for this unprecedented effort to fundamentally change the IRS," Rossotti said.

Booz-Allen is expected to make its report to the Commissioner in early summer.
